Puppymill Awareness People Magazine November 8th Issue
This petition is to ask People Magazine to please allow an article to be put into their magazine about puppymills and rescue dogs, to try and educate people out there who need to be educated instead of advertising about a teenager and his mother making money off of making a irresponsible website to help these millers sell more pups and pocket a few dollars on the side for it. The November article showed nothing more than promotion of these types of Internet breeders who need to be shut down.

Pet Insurance May Help Keep Pets Healthy
Most people would not dream of going without insurance for themselves and their families, but what happens when a beloved pet suddenly gets ill or has some kind of accident. Veterinary bills can add up and put a financial burden on the household when there is a crisis, but until a few years ago, the idea of having insurance for pets seemed ridiculous. These days more and more people are taking advantage of pet insurance to ensure...

Winter Pet Care Tips
Lots of great safety tips for the bitter winter months, from housing and snow salt to toxic plants during the holiday season.

First Things First, Pet Food Label Listing
Ingredients in pet foods are listed on the label in descending order. Those at the beginning of the list are more plentiful than those toward the end. For cats, choose a food that has meat as the first or second ingredient. Ideally, it should be the same in dog foods, but meat, or the next best thing, meat meal, can be at least two of the top three ingredients. You do not want anything that says by products. I am sure many of you have seen the word meal as you have glanced through those pet food labels. Meal means reduced in size. Example, chicken meal is chicken that is cooked, most of the water removed and reduced in size (ground) in order to attain a more uniform mixture with the remainder of the pet food ingredients. If you would like to read more about What is Really in Pet Food, you will definitely find the report by the Animal Protection Institute quite interesting and eye opening.

Canine Distemper
Canine distemper is a contagious, incurable, often fatal, multisystemic viral disease that affects the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and central nervous systems. Distemper is caused by the canine distemper virus (CDV).

Obesity in Dogs and Cats, To Be or Not to Be
Obesity is the most common nutritional disease in dogs. Scientific studies have confirmed that 20 percent of cats are overweight. Experts consider a dog obese when he or she weights over 15 percent of the optimum weight for its species. The best way to detect obesity is not to just weight your pet, but to observe its figure as you would a human being (see diagram).

Natural Alternative to Rimadyl for Arthritis
Yes, Agility is safer than steroids and NSAIDs because it is an ALL NATURAL supplement that delivers special nutrients and herbs to the joint, bones sand surrounding tissue. Agility is a safe alternative with no side effects. Steroids and NSAIDs (non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs) can have medical disadvantages such as pancreatic disease, diabetes and liver disease to name a few.

Diabetes Mellitus, A Disease of Humans and Pets Alike
Diabetes mellitus can affect humans and animals alike. It can be a debilitating disease if untreated, and managing it can be a challenge. Once an effective treatment is established, however, pets can often live long, healthy, practically normal lives.

What is Really in Pet Food? API Report
Whole chickens, choice cuts of beef, fresh grains and all the wholesome nutrition your dog or cat will ever need. These are the images pet food manufacturers promulgate through the media and advertising. This is what the 10 billion dollar per year U.S. pet food industry wants consumers to believe they are buying when they purchase their products. This report explores the differences between what consumers think they are buying compared to what they are actually getting.

Urinary Tract Infections in Dogs and Cats
Urinary tract infections are just as uncomfortable for pets as they are for people, and they get them nearly as often. Caused by bacteria in the bladder or urethra (the tube through which urine flows), urinary tract infections can make it very painful to urinate. And, if the infections are not caught early, they can spread upward to the kidneys, causing serious problems. Both holistic and mainstream veterinarians treat urinary tract infections with antibiotics, but holistic vets go a little further.
